My services are like a relationship laboratory- the client is offered a safe container to unpack all the many varied parts of intimacy. I empower the client to examine oneself and build a capacity for intimacy and vulnerability.
I offer holistic services, such as coaching regarding safe touch, consent, and boundaries. I support the processing of past traumas through various modalities. I offer surrogate relationship therapy through the triadic treatment model.
C Murphy is located in the beautiful Southern NH area just 40 minutes North of Boston, Massachusetts. She is not far from New England's mountains and beaches. She can make arrangements to see clients in her region and is also not much more than an hour from Portland, Maine, just about 30 miles from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, 1.5 hours from Providence, Rhode Island, 2 hours from Hartford, Connecticut, or Brattleboro, Vermont, 3 hours from Burlington, Vermont, and 4 hours from New York City.
Surrogate partner therapy is an intensive form of therapy for clients who have relational trauma or intractable barriers to physical or emotional intimacy. This type of therapy is delivered as a collaboration between two trained professionals, a therapist and a surrogate partner, who support the client in overcoming these obstacles in intimate relationships.
Surrogate Partner Therapy is a powerful, co-creative experience to heal trauma and foster strong intimacy/life skills. In a structured, safe, and nurturing environment with a verbal therapist and a trained professional surrogate partner therapist working in collaboration.
Working with each of these therapists, and with the therapists communicating together, the client is able to freely explore any issues that have prevented them from living the joyous and intimately connected life that they dream of and deserve.
Please review the Appointment Page for descriptions of all modalities of care and associated fees.
C. Murphy does not ever want anyone not to have access to the care they want and need. For this reason, she offers military discounts and sliding scale fees for those with financial restrictions that would otherwise limit their ability to obtain treatment.
In addition to military discounts and sliding scale fees, Dr Murphy accepts payments via credit cards, Venmo, and PayPal to make care as accessible as possible.
Excerpt from "The Tapestry of Surrogate Partner Therapy," copyright c. 2001 Vena Blanchard
"It is not uncommon for uninformed individuals to jump to the inaccurate conclusions that SPT is in some way unethical [or] illegal.... These assumptions are the product of imagination, not fact. For at least the last twenty-five years California legislature, legal authorities, and the administrative bodies that regulate the practice of therapy have been aware of SPT. On the rare occasions when they have had occasion to study the question, they have indicated that there is nothing illegal or unethical about SPT as an adjunct to psychotherapy. Like carrying a purple purse, unless used in ways for which it is not intended, SPT is unregulated and completely legal."
